This blog can be an enigma to me at times. It usually trips me up the most after I’ve just told someone (or a lot of someones, like at the talk I gave on Sunday), that I write about healthy foods, meal planning, recipes, and healthy eating for kids. Without fail, immediately after shouting those words into the universe, the only thing I can think to write about is the day to day mom stuff.

I get this picture in my head that this new person types in my url, the page loads and they are left with this ‘huh?’ look on their face because they’re suddenly stuck reading about an 8-month-old’s nap schedule without a recipe to be seen. (However, they are always under the food tab at the top FYI Winking smile)

But that’s the natural ebb and flow of life, right? Sometimes I get all jazzed up about recipes, meal planning, kitchen things, ideas of fun things for kids to eat… and other times, it’s just the humdrum sound of everyday life… and a washing machine that’s on its last legs.

On those days/weeks I consider just taking a day/week off. I know y’all wouldn’t mind and actually I know you don’t give two seconds of your time to the drama that goes on in my head over my blog’s identity, but inevitably I find myself here at the computer, typing about the day to day. Because the truth is that the typing, the early morning me time, is therapeutic.

And occasionally I like writing about the day to day simply because having this online time capsule is really amazing. I think I’ll really love it 10 years from now when my thirteen (?!?!) year old daughter is too big for her britches and I can look back at a snapshot of a time when things were more simple.

So when things get hectic, instead of recipe testing or picture editing, I enjoy some downtime and take pictures of the little scenes that pop up around my house that remind me how much I really love being here.

Like tiny Minnie Mouse socks and indoor picnics.

And though I know I don’t owe anyone an explanation (again, no one caressss that much Brittany), I still feel the need to proclaim that I’m on a mental vacation right now that includes wearing jammies and no makeup until noon. And torturing myself by baking delicious bread for Hailey that I can’t eat for two more days.

It includes letting go of the messes that playtime creates and letting Hailey mix whatever she wants in a bowl and bake it, just to see what happens.

(Side note, it tasted like salted play dough and she LOVED it. She kept sneaking more bites of the disgusting creation which further proves that kids will want to eat anything they help make in the kitchen.)

It includes just letting my girls just be, with no agenda to attend to. Koda included.

It includes afternoon play dates and super-selfies with friends at the park because if you haven’t heard, it’s been 60 and sunny here in NC.

And yes, it does include food, too.

But just enjoying it, not analyzing it.

What are you passionate about?

Do you have times where your energy ebbs?

What helps you during those times?
